First word of advice – line up your hotel before you get to San Miguel de Allende. Hotels fill quickly, especially during holidays like Easter and Christmas. But they fill up equally fast if it’s school vacation week in the United States. And you just may not know about a holiday in Mexico when Mexicans pour into San Miguel to celebrate.

How do you choose one? Well, here are just a few suggestions. Check them all out online, or call them to get more details. Ask … are children welcome? how about pets? do rates include taxes? do I pay extra for a child in the room? an adult? what are your cancellation policies? how much do I pay upfront? do I get it back if I cancel? does my room have a private bath? is there secure parking for my car?

Probably the most important question is, “how far from el jardin are you?” Unfortunately just about everyone will say it’s a flat five or ten minute walk. Beware. Nothing is flat in San Miguel de Allende! And that five minute walk may be fine for a track star, but how about real people?

You get the idea. Plan ahead. And you won’t have any bad surprises.

The hotels we list will be clean and nicely decorated. And the owners, or managers, are friendly and usually bilingual. If you’ve got a problem, bring it up right away and it will probably be solved.

Hotels, as in any other tourist area, charge higher rates for the “high season” (October through April) and holidays. Any rates given here could change at any minute, so ask the hotels for the current rates when you book.
